M.S Dhoni steps down as CSK captain – Ravindra Jadega to lead the side

Former India captain MS Dhoni stunned the globe once more by resigning as captain of the Chennai Super Kings just a few days before the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Dhoni handed up the captaincy to all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja as the defending champions CSK take on the 2021 runners-up Kolkata Knight Riders in the first game of the IPL 2022 on Saturday (March 26).

Dhoni was already intending to step down as captain, according to Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan, and was just waiting for the proper time. “He made the announcement today after practise at a team meeting.

“He announced the decision at a team meeting today after practice. But he was already thinking about it. MS thought Jaddu (Ravindra Jadeja) was ready to take the mantle and was at his best form to take the leadership role,”

Jadega’s reaction

Ravindra Jadeja, the new captain of the Chennai Super Kings, stated on Thursday that he intends to carry on MS Dhoni’s legacy.

CSK posted a video on Twitter of Jadeja’s initial emotions to being named as the new captain.

“Feeling good, at the same time, I also have to fill in big boots. Mahi Bhai has already set a big legacy so I need to carry it forward,” he said in the video.

“I do not need to worry too much because he is here. Mahi Bhai will be my go-to person. He was and he still is today. So, I am not worried, thank you for your wishes and love. Keep supporting us,” Jadeja added.

The IPL 2022 will begin on March 26 and CSK will square off against the 2021 finalists Kolkata Knight Riders in the opening clash!
