MSD steps down as CSK’s Captain, Jadeja to takeover

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will have a new captain for 2022 when MS Dhoni passes the baton to all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja on Thursday. All-rounder Ravindra Jadhav will lead the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2022, as veteran MS Dhoni, the team, said in a statement. The captaincy was handed over to him and published on March 24. Ravindra Jadeja has replaced the legendary MS Dhoni as the Chennai Super Kings captain in IPL 15, starting in Mumbai on Saturday night.

Ravindra Jadeja will lead the Chennai Super Kings in the upcoming IPL 2022 after MS Dhoni, who has led the team since the tournament’s first season, stepped down as captain on Thursday. Former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar said that Ravindra Jadeja would be ready to take over as CSK captain if MS Dhoni decides to make a couple of matches in the next IPL. On the eve of the opening match, M.S. Dhoni resigned as captain of the CSK.

According to the clarifier, veteran MS Dhoni will continue to be part of the team. CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said MS Dhoni decided on Thursday, and he has been thinking about it for some time. In January 2017, M.S. Dhoni decided to step down as captain of India’s shorter formats before finally hanging up his boots in August 2020. Dhoni is known for his shocking decisions, and it is pretty tricky to answer this question.

MS Dhoni has captained CSK since joining the team during the championship season in 2008 and has led the team to four championships. Legendary wicket batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni played for Rising Pune Supergiant after the makeup scandal broke, and CSK was suspended for two years in 2016 and 2017.  In addition to leading CSK, MS Dhoni also led Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) for two seasons. Five years ago, MS Dhoni was replaced as captain of the Rising Pune Supergiant by Steve Smith midway through the season.

After Mahendra Singh Dhoni was named captain ahead of the Indian Premier League’s inaugural edition in 2008, he led CSK to four IPL titles. He made them the second most successful team in tournament history. Dhoni has captained 204 games in the IPL, winning 121, losing 82 and ending one game in a draw with a win rate of 59.60.

MS Dhoni was instrumental in taking CSK to the final last season, thanks to his quick-serve how CSK bounced back from the title after a disappointing 2020 that kept Dhoni magic everywhere. While many cancelled the Chennai Super Kings after a poor 2020 IPL season, MS Dhoni was able to make the most of his players next season (IPL 2021) and surprise everyone by winning the title. MS Dhoni Chennai Super Kings, bought by Chennai Super Kings in the tiebreaker in 2012, also decided to spend a lot of money on defending champion Ravindra Jadeja.

Can Jadeja take CSK to glory just like MSD did?
